Epicurean Awards 2004

Epicurean Awards 2004

Alizé beat out such tough competition as Le Cirque, Renoir and Picasso for this award, so owner André Rochat should be bursting with pride. The restaurant has a few obvious pluses – one of the best views in town (atop the Palms) and a world-class wine and spirits list heavy on Cognacs and wines dating to the 18th century. But Alizé won this award mostly because of Rochat's and Chef de Cuisine Jacques Van Staden's take on a few traditional presentations as well as more creative fare such as Peekytoe crab, avocado and cucumber salad, pan-seared Hudson Valley foie gras garnished with pink grapefruit and citrus honey reduction, and Phyllo-wrapped Colorado lamb shank with morels, English peas and thumbnail-size goat cheese ravioli. Rochat who opened the original Andre's on Sixth Street nearly 25 years ago and remains on of this dining scene's true pioneers, still has plenty of fuel in the tank. Lucky for us, he left the door open for his young protégé to be as creative as he wishes.
