Best New Hotel Restaurant
Staff Pick: Alizé
Same hotel, different room. And what a difference the setting makes in Alizé. Located atop the Palms, the breathtaking Strip panorama provides a glittering view that diners can drink in — when they're not imbibing wine plucked from the 5,000-bottle tower that dominates the middle of the room. But enough about atmosphere. Because Alizé's the latest restaurant venture from André Rochat of Andre's French Restaurant fame, it maintains a command of classic French cuisine, ensuring an evening here tastes as good as it looks. link to original article
Best French Restaurant
Readers' Pick: Andre's French Restaurant
André Rochat's original Sixth Street location has been around since 1980, which makes it a familiar spot for longtime Las Vegans. But longevity alone wouldn't be sufficient to make Andre's a perennial winner in this category. Andre's on Sixth has a cozy, country French feel. The restaurant serves updated takes on classic French cuisine such as veal sweetbreads and chicken quenelles, roasted Alaskan halibut with chervil beurre blanc and dessert souffles. Pamplemousse was a distant second.
Staff Pick: Andre's French Restaurant
OK, so we have long memories, too. But we also like the fact that Rochat always stretches; his latest stretch is to the top floor of the Palms, where he last year opened Alizé, an Andre's clone with a valleywide view.
Most Romantic Restaurant
Readers' Pick: Andre's French Restaurant
What could be more romantic than French food, French music and a country French interior divided into cozy little rooms? Not much, we guess, because readers gave Andre's a strong showing in this category, new to this year's Best of Las Vegas. McCormick & Schmick's took second.
Staff Pick: Andre's French Restaurant
Ah, heck, even the menu at Andre's contributes to the romantic feeling, because the flavors are just so delicious, the textures so sublime, that the feeling of well-being almost overwhelms. And you can always hope for oysters on the seasonal menu.
