Cynics predicted an early demise for Andre Rochat when he opened a classic French restaurant in an ivy-covered 1930s-era home several blocks away from the bright lights of downtown's famous Glitter Gulch. That was about 20 years ago, and visiting conventioneers and Las Vegans still are savoring his oven-roasted rack of lamb with mustard and herb sauce, beef filet in green peppercorn sauce, and amazing soufflés. You'll also find more modern creations, such as seared scallops with macadamia nuts, that change daily based on product availability. A second location at the Monte Carlo (Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino, 3770 Las Vegas Blvd. So., Tel: 702/798-7151) serves French food that's just as fine, but in a much more upscale and beautifully appointed venue.
